    Katowice, March 4, 2022 – A professional bank of intestinal microbiota and a model of outpatient telecare for patients with heart failure are the solutions that won the Start-Up-Med competition. The award gala was part of the VII Health Challenges Congress (March 3 – 4, 2022).

    During the VII Health Challenges Congress, Human Biome Institute was announced the winner in the start-up of the year category. The award at the gala was received by the CEO Jarosław Biliński, MD, Ph.D. During his acceptance speech, he emphasized establishing the company as a solution for the most significant century’s challenges – the growing problem of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and the role of intestinal microbiota in immunoncology, as outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO).
    The Start-Up-Med competition awards medical start-ups creating the most innovative products and processes of significant importance for patients and the health care system and with profitability of implementation, including medical technologies in a broad sense. A jury of experts evaluated 50 projects submitted to this year’s edition of the competition, of which the Human Biome Institute received the highest scores.

    Human Biome Institute created a professional intestinal microbiota bank and launched products containing an entire consortium of microbiota. Those products are being distributed to hospitals and health care centers throughout Poland. The effectiveness of such a product in the case of Clostridioides difficile infection is estimated to reach 90% – no drug is as effective – emphasized the company’s founder. The main research and development activity currently focuses on identifying active ingredients of the microbiota and creating a “Drug Discovery” platform. The platform is based on modern technologies and aims to predict novel drugs and biotherapeutics derived from the gut microbiota.
    Human Biome Institute aims to support the patients’ health and life by preparing a specialized product from intestinal bacteria and delivering it to the patient’s bed – in the form of suspension in syringe sets or capsules, following the world’s standards. In his statement, the founder and CEO of the company announced the company’s aim to develop globally and reach a TOP10 position in the world in the future.

    The VII Health Challenges Congress was held on March 3-4, 2022, at the International Congress Center in Katowice. Its program consisted of 40 sessions, debates, lectures, presentations, and interviews about the current challenges of the health system in Poland. The Health Challenges Congress (HCC) is organized by the PTWP Group, publisher of the Rynek Zdrowia magazine and portal, organizer of, a.o.: Health Market Forum, one of the most prestigious and representative public debates dedicated to the current situation on the health market and the future of the Polish health care system held anually, as well as the European Economic Congress in Katowice, the most significant business event in Central Europe.

    The HCC in Katowice is a meeting of specialists representing over a dozen medical disciplines, academia, economy, business, finance, insurance market, non-governmental organizations, politics, state, local administration and the media. As a result, the event became an unprecedented forum for interdisciplinary discussion on crucial issues for health systems in Europe.
